Sami Makkonen lives
in Helinski,
Finland.
A comic book fan since his elementary school days, it compelled him to
pursue a degree in art with studies in Finland and attendance at
University Tartu in
Estonia.
After graduation, he concentrated on comics and sequential art. His work
has appeared in Split Lip, one of the premiere online horror
anthologies. After his portfolio appeared on Warren Ellis’ The Engine,
he was contracted by Elizabeth Genco to work on a short story called
Yes, Mother which appeared in Negative Burn. Sami and Elizabeth
then teamed up on the original graphic novel, BLUE, which was
released by Desperado Publishing.
Deadworld:
Slaughterhouse, Gary Reed’s new series set in Deadworld, had Sami
embark on a four issue mini-series. However, after the first issue was
released, it was decided that the story would be better served coming
out as a single book and so, Deadworld Slaughterhouse is a
hardover (October 2009). The work on Slaughterhouse caught the
attention of Frank Beddor, the creator of The Looking Glass Wars.
Hatter M was a n original comic prelude to the best selling novel
and featured art by Ben Templesmith and Beddor was looking for the next
artist and Sami fit the bill perfectly.
Sami is working on a
number of project including the art for the next music project by Anssi
Kela, on of
Finland’s top
selling artists.
